Hell is Us Finally Gets a Release Date
Developer Rogue Factor and publisher Nacon have officially announced that the third-person action-adventure game Hell is Us will launch on September 4, 2025. The news was revealed during yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play showcase, with PlayStation pre-orders now available. Pre-orders for Xbox and PC will open in the coming days.

First announced last year, the game follows Rémi, played by Elias Toufexis (known for his role in the Deus Ex series), as he embarks on a journey to uncover his origins. Set in a war-torn country ravaged by civil conflict, the world is haunted by supernatural creatures resembling ancient headstones and monuments found throughout the region
Hell is Us will launch on September 4th, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC.
Gameplay and Exploration
In Hell is Us, players will experience a third-person action-adventure that emphasizes both intense melee combat and exploration. The game introduces a unique approach by removing traditional navigation aids such as maps, compasses, and quest markers. This design choice encourages players to rely on environmental cues and their instincts to navigate the semi-open world. For instance, players might follow auditory signals like wind chimes or visual landmarks to uncover new areas and progress in the story.
Combat Mechanics
Combat in Hell is Us is designed to be impactful and strategic. Players have access to a variety of melee weapons, including swords, spears, and axes, each tailored to combat the supernatural entities known as chimeras. These weapons possess unique abilities that blend scientific elements with traditional combat techniques. Additionally, the protagonist is equipped with a drone companion named KAPI, which can be utilized to distract enemies or set up special attacks, adding a tactical layer to engagements. The developers aim to provide a balanced difficulty level that challenges players without being overly punitive.
Narrative and Setting
Set in the fictional country of Hadea, the game explores themes of civil war and human emotion. Players assume the role of Rémi, a peacekeeper returning to his homeland to uncover the fate of his parents. Hadea has been devastated by conflict and is now plagued by supernatural creatures resulting from an event known as the “Calamity.” The narrative delves into mature themes, examining the cyclical nature of human violence and the complexities of familial bonds.
Development Team
The creative direction of Hell is Us is led by Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, known for his work on titles such as Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. His vision focuses on delivering an experience that emphasizes player-driven exploration and discovery, moving away from conventional hand-holding mechanics.
